WesternGeco selects Sentrum

Sentrum a specialist in data centre solutions, has today announced that WesternGeco, the world’s leading geophysical services company, will lease technical space at the Sentrum 4 data centre facility in Woking. The site will house computers for the WesternGeco UK data processing operations and will be one of the company’s largest data centres.

A business unit of leading oilfield services provider Schlumberger, WesternGeco is the world’s leading geophysical services provider, with the most extensive global footprint of data processing centres in the industry.

“It was important that our UK site be positioned within a given radius of our office in Gatwick,” said Alan Hobbs, WesternGeco IT DP Service Delivery Manager. “We also wanted a self-contained facility, as well as control over the layout and technical specifications of the data centre.”

Franek Sodzawiczny, Co-Founder & Chief Development Officer at Sentrum added, “Sentrum is delighted to have been selected by WesternGeco, and we’re confident that the working relationship will be a successful one.”

The announcement follows the recent launch of Sentrum’s latest research into attitudes towards outsourcing. Findings in the report entitled “The Data Centre Gamble” have indicated that the number of companies seeking to outsource their data centre requirements is expected to rise in 2011, returning close to the highest levels recorded in 2009.
